About Rotate & Flip Image

Sometimes a photo comes out sideways or upside down — a phone held at an angle, a scan fed in the wrong way, an image whose orientation tag got lost. Rotating turns the picture in 90° steps until it's upright. Flipping mirrors it: a horizontal flip swaps left and right (handy for selfies where text reads backwards, or to face a subject the other way), while a vertical flip mirrors top and bottom. These are lossless operations — rotating or flipping by 90° just rearranges existing pixels, so quality is untouched.

Rotate vs flip

Rotating preserves the scene exactly, just turned. Flipping creates a mirror image, so anything with text or a recognizable layout will read reversed — great for artistic mirroring, but don't flip a document you need to stay legible. If your phone photos keep appearing rotated on other devices, it's usually the EXIF orientation tag; saving a rotated copy here bakes the correct orientation into the pixels so it looks right everywhere.

FAQ

Does rotating lose quality?
No — 90° rotation and flipping just rearrange pixels losslessly.
What's the difference between rotate and flip?
Rotate turns the image; flip mirrors it left-right or top-bottom.
Why do my photos keep showing sideways?
It's usually a stale EXIF orientation tag; saving a rotated copy fixes it.
